Bon Jovi at MSG: Nine Nights in July — The Long Island Guide to Getting There and Back
Bon Jovi is back.
After Jon Bon Jovi's vocal surgery sidelined the band for years, the Forever Tour is their full return — and the only North American dates on the entire tour are nine nights at Madison Square Garden. July 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, and 26. No other US cities. Nine shows, one venue, a month of New York City.
For a band that's as New York and New Jersey as any act in rock, this is the right call. For Long Island fans — and there are a lot of them — this is nine chances to get into the city and back, which means nine times you'll have to figure out transportation.
What Makes This Residency Different
The "no repeat setlists" promise is real. Bon Jovi announced before the tour that no two nights will feature the same set. With four decades of material — the hits, the deep cuts, the B-sides — they have the catalog to back it up. That's why fans with multiple tickets are already planning two or three nights, not just one.
Most shows are sold out at face value. Resale tickets are running $280 to $420+ depending on the date, with opening night July 7 and the weekend dates commanding the highest prices. If you don't have tickets yet, check StubHub and Vivid Seats — secondary market inventory still exists.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Show at 7:30pm. That means if you're coming from western Suffolk County or Nassau, you're looking at leaving by 4:30 or 5pm to get there comfortably. A 7:30pm show at MSG ends around 10:30 to 11pm. Then you have to get home.
The MSG Transportation Reality
Parking at Madison Square Garden is not a realistic option. The arena is built on top of Penn Station in midtown Manhattan. There is no dedicated MSG parking lot. The closest garages — Hudson Yards, the Port Authority area — are 10 to 15 minutes walking and run $40 to $60 on show nights. After the show ends and 20,000 people exit at 11pm, those same garages take 30 to 45 minutes to clear.
The LIRR from Penn Station is the standard recommendation for Long Island fans. It works. After a 10:30pm show end, the next Ronkonkoma or Babylon train home is usually 11:10 or 11:30pm — crowded, standing room, everyone still buzzing from the show. If you miss that window, the next train might be 12:30am.
That's fine for some nights. For groups, for anyone who doesn't want to stand on a packed train platform in dress clothes at 11:15pm, or for people coming from further out on the Island, the math changes.
Why Nine Nights Change the Calculus
One concert, you figure it out. Nine concerts — or two or three if you're attending multiple nights — and the logistics start to add up. A couple going to see Bon Jovi twice is looking at $600+ in tickets alone. Adding two car service trips, front door to front door from somewhere in Nassau or Suffolk, is a meaningful expense but a meaningful difference in the experience.
We've done the MSG run hundreds of times. The route from Nassau County or western Suffolk on a Tuesday or Thursday night in July moves well — the LIE or the Southern State, Queens Midtown Tunnel or the Triborough, into midtown by 6:30pm comfortably if you leave at 4:45. The ride home after a late show, going east, is usually smooth. There's nothing coming at you at 11:30pm on the LIE headed toward Long Island.
Picking Your Night
If you're deciding which of the nine dates to attend:
Tuesday nights (July 7, 14, 21) — Weeknights, lighter post-show tunnel traffic. The opener July 7 has the highest energy and highest ticket prices.
Thursday nights (July 9, 16, 23) — Similar weeknight traffic advantage. July 16 and July 21 are the lowest-priced nights on the secondary market right now.
Sunday nights (July 12, 19, 26) — Weekend shows, slightly heavier traffic going in. Going home Sunday night on the LIE is relaxed. July 26 is the final night — expect a charged room and a different kind of set.
If you're going more than once, Tuesday and Thursday are your cleanest travel nights.
What to Actually Plan For
Leaving Long Island: build in 2 to 2.5 hours from Nassau County. From central Suffolk, 2.5 to 3 hours on a July weekday evening.
Arrival: doors at 6:30pm. Being there by 7pm is fine. The openers, if any, usually don't impact the start of the main set.
After the show: the MSG area on 7th and 8th Avenue around 11pm on a concert night is controlled chaos. If you have a driver waiting, they'll be at a designated pickup point — coordinate the exact spot before you go in.
Food before: midtown is your oyster. Times Square area is tourist-heavy; the west side around 9th and 10th Avenue has better options. If you're doing dinner before the show, budget 90 minutes and don't count on getting seated after 5:30pm without a reservation.
Booking Car Service for the Forever Tour
If you want a professional car service from anywhere on Long Island for any of the nine Bon Jovi shows — drop-off at MSG, wait, pickup after the show — request a quote here.
We'll have a driver there when the show ends. You tell us your seats and we'll have a general sense of when to expect you. No surge pricing. No guessing whether your Uber is going to be there at 11:15pm in midtown when 19 other shows just ended.
Bon Jovi doesn't do this often. Nine nights at MSG is a once-in-a-generation run. The logistics shouldn't be the hard part.
