Getting to Bruce Springsteen at Prudential Center from Long Island — What You Need to Know
Bruce Springsteen is playing Prudential Center in Newark on April 20th. If you've got tickets, you already know what you spent — resale is running $450 to $2,000. You're not cutting corners on the night itself.
What most Long Islanders haven't figured out yet is how they're getting there and, more importantly, how they're getting home. That Monday night return trip from Newark after a 3-hour Springsteen show is where the evening either finishes well or falls apart.
Here's an honest look at every option.
Option 1: Drive Yourself
From Nassau County, you're looking at 75 to 90 minutes on a normal Monday evening. From Suffolk, budget 90 to 120 minutes. You'll take the LIE west, then either the Belt Parkway to the Goethals Bridge or pick up the Staten Island Expressway to the Outerbridge Crossing, then up the New Jersey Turnpike into Newark.
On paper, that's straightforward. In practice, a Monday evening on the LIE heading toward the city is not a casual drive. And that's before the show.
After the show — call it 10:30, maybe 11pm — every person in that 19,500-seat arena is trying to leave at once. You'll sit in the Prudential Center parking structure for 30 to 45 minutes before you even see a street. Then the Turnpike. Then the bridge. Then the LIE heading east, quiet at least, but you're looking at midnight or later by the time you pull into your driveway in Smithtown or Garden City.
Parking runs $30 to $50 in the lots near the arena, and the closer lots fill early for a show this size.
Option 2: Train
LIRR to Penn Station, then NJ Transit to Newark Penn Station, then a walk or Uber to the arena. That's two trains and a transfer, which is fine going in. Coming out, you're standing on a packed NJ Transit platform at 11pm with half the arena crowd, waiting on a train that may or may not be running on schedule, then sitting on the LIRR home from Penn Station on a Monday night with dwindling service frequency.
It works. It's not comfortable, and after a three-hour concert you've been on your feet for most of — you might not want to stand on a train platform in Newark at midnight.
Option 3: Rideshare
Uber and Lyft surge hard in Newark after major shows. The arena lets out, 19,000 people open their apps simultaneously, and prices spike. It's not unusual to see 2x to 3x pricing at midnight outside Prudential Center after a sold-out concert. You're also waiting — sometimes 20 to 30 minutes for a pickup in that post-show chaos.
What We Do Instead
We pick you up at your house. You ride to Newark. You see Springsteen. We're outside when the show ends. You ride home.
No parking fees. No surge pricing. No standing on a train platform at midnight. No driving on the LIE at 1am after three hours of Born to Run.
We've done hundreds of runs to Newark, Madison Square Garden, Barclays, MetLife. Concert nights at major arenas have a specific rhythm — we know when to be there, where to wait, and how to get you out before the crowd fully disperses. If you've used us for airport transfers, you already know how this works. Same principle: we handle the logistics so you don't have to think about them.
Who This Makes Sense For
If you're going with your partner, the math works out quickly. Two round-trip train tickets plus surge rideshares in Newark come close to what a car service costs — without the hassle factored in.
If you're taking clients, this is a no-brainer. Springsteen is classic client entertainment for anyone in the New York/New Jersey business world. You want to walk into that arena having done nothing more taxing than enjoyed the ride in. You don't want to be explaining to a client why you're sitting in a parking garage.
If you're coming from Suffolk — Huntington, Smithtown, Hauppauge, Commack — the train is a two-step process just to get to Penn Station. By the time you add NJ Transit, a return LIRR to your stop, and a drive from the station, you've spent more time commuting than watching the show.
The Specifics on April 20th
Show time: 7:30 PM, Prudential Center, Newark Expected end time: 10:30 to 11 PM (Springsteen runs long — plan for 11) Drive from Nassau County: 75–90 minutes, leave by 5:30 PM to be comfortable Drive from Suffolk County: 90–120 minutes, leave by 5:00 PM Post-show traffic clearing: 45–60 minutes before roads near the arena normalize
If you want to arrive relaxed and leave without the headache of driving the Turnpike home past midnight, book early. April 20th is a Monday, which means we'll have availability — but concert nights book fast once people start thinking through the logistics.
One More Thing
Tom Morello is opening. That's not a support act you want to miss because you're hunting for a parking spot at 7:15.
Getting home is the part people forget to plan. By the time you're walking out of Prudential Center having just watched three hours of Springsteen with Tom Morello — you want a car waiting, not a surge price and a 25-minute wait.
