Governors Ball 2026: Long Island Car Service to Flushing Meadows
Governors Ball is back June 5, 6, and 7, and this year it changes the math for everyone on Long Island. The festival has moved to Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, the first time it has been at that venue since 2012. If you are coming from Nassau or Suffolk, that is a different drive, a different parking situation, and a very different conversation about how you get home at 11pm on a Friday night. This is the year a Long Island car service to Governors Ball stops being a luxury and starts being the obvious move.
I have been running this kind of trip from the East End out to NYC venues for 20 years on Long Island. The Flushing Meadows version is its own animal. Let me walk you through it.
Governors Ball 2026: What's New This Year
For years, Gov Ball lived on Randalls Island. The trip from Long Island was a slog, but it was a known slog. This year it moves to Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, the same complex that holds the Unisphere, Citi Field, and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
That move matters for one reason. Flushing Meadows sits at the intersection of the LIE, the Grand Central Parkway, and the Van Wyck Expressway. Three of the busiest roads in the country share a single corner of Queens. On a normal Friday afternoon in June, that corner is bad. On a Friday afternoon in June with 50,000 people heading to a music festival, it is something else.
The good news is the venue is closer to Long Island than Randalls Island ever was. The bad news is that everyone else is taking the same three roads to get there.
The Lineup Long Island Fans Are Coming For
The 2026 lineup is genuinely big. Lorde, Stray Kids, and A$AP Rocky are headlining. Jennie of BLACKPINK, Baby Keem, Kali Uchis, Major Lazer, Clipse, and Dominic Fike are in the next tier. Expect 50,000-plus per day, north of 150,000 across the three days.
What that means for traffic: this is not a one-day event where you only worry about Saturday. Friday afternoon ingress will be heavy because Lorde is closing the first night. Saturday will be the biggest single day because of Stray Kids. Sunday afternoon is usually lighter for entry but messier on the way out because everyone leaves at once.
If you are a parent sending a teenager to see Stray Kids or Jennie, you already know the K-pop crowd shows up early and stays for the entire night. The ride home is the part of the day you actually need to plan for.
Why Driving to Flushing Meadows Is the Worst Friday of June
Here is the honest version of the drive from Long Island.
From Melville at 4pm on Friday June 5, you are looking at a 90-minute crawl to the festival entrance. The LIE westbound at Exit 30 backs up first. Then the Grand Central Parkway entrance to the park becomes a single lane of brake lights. The Van Wyck northbound, which is feeding traffic from Belt Parkway and JFK, becomes a parking lot by 4pm on a festival day.
Leave at 6:30am or 11am and the same drive is 35 minutes. Leave at 4pm and you are missing your first set. That is the entire trade.
The afternoon also gets worse if there is a Mets home game at Citi Field next door. Always check that before you leave the house.
Parking at Flushing Meadows: Don't
People ask me about parking. The answer is do not try.
On-site festival parking is limited and books out the day passes go on sale. The Citi Field overflow lots fill by 2pm on Friday and by 11am on Saturday. Once those are gone, you are circling Corona, College Point, and Willets Point looking for street parking with 49,000 other people doing the same thing.
Even if you find a spot, you are walking a mile in festival clothing, in June, in Queens. Then you are doing the same walk in the dark at 11pm with everyone else trying to leave.
The LIRR-to-7-train transfer at Mets–Willets Point is technically an option. It is fine if you are alone in sneakers. It is not fine if you are a group dressed for the show, and the last LIRR trains rarely line up cleanly with set end times. You finish the night standing on a packed platform.
What a Car Service Actually Solves
A pre-booked chauffeur fixes the three problems that ruin festival weekends.
First, you do not park. We drop at the closest legal point. For Flushing Meadows, that is the 126th Street side near Citi Field, not the Unisphere entrance. We know where the NYPD is going to wave cars through and where they are going to block off. That changes day to day during the festival, and we adjust.
Second, you do not deal with surge pricing. Uber and Lyft back to Nassau or Suffolk at 11pm on a festival night routinely run $200 and up. A round trip with us is a flat agreed rate, locked in before you leave the driveway. No screen refresh at midnight showing you a number that does not make sense.
Third, you do not deal with a canceled ride. Anyone who has tried to call a rideshare from a festival end-of-night knows the routine. You request, you wait, the driver cancels because they cannot find you in the crowd, you request again, the price doubles. With us, you have a name, a phone number, and a known pickup spot. One call, one text. Done.
The other angle worth mentioning: Flushing Meadows is 10 minutes south of JFK on the Van Wyck. We run a full JFK car service every day of the year. We know that stretch of the Van Wyck cold. If you are flying in for the festival, we can put together one trip for the airport pickup, the hotel, and the festival nights.
The Parent Angle: Teens Going to See Stray Kids and Jennie
This part of the conversation has come up a lot in the last two weeks. A lot of Long Island parents are sending 16 and 17-year-olds to Gov Ball this year, specifically for Stray Kids on Saturday and Jennie on Sunday. The K-pop crowd is younger and more international than the usual Gov Ball audience.
What parents from Garden City, Roslyn, and Huntington keep asking me: how do I get my kid home from Flushing Meadows at midnight without putting them in a stranger's car?
The honest answer is a pre-booked chauffeur is the only realistic option. Your kid has a phone number for a driver they know. The driver is at the same spot you agreed on. The driver brings them straight back to your driveway. No app, no surge, no unknown profile picture on a phone screen.
I have been doing this for families on Long Island for two decades. The car will be there.
How to Book
If you are going to Gov Ball, do this now and not in the week before. Festival weekends book out our calendar early, especially the Friday and Saturday late pickups.
Tell us your home neighborhood, what time your group wants to leave, which day or days you are going, and what time the headliner you care about is closing. We build the schedule around that. For more on what a full day with a Long Island car service looks like, that page has the basics. For Gov Ball specifically, you can request a quote and we will lock in the rate before the weekend gets here.
