Jets Home Opener vs. Packers: Football Sundays at MetLife, the Long Island Way

The Jets open their home schedule against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM at MetLife Stadium. One week later, the Giants host the Titans on Sunday, September 27, also at 1:00 PM. If you are going to either game from Nassau or Suffolk, this post is about the part of the day that is not football: getting a carload of people from Long Island to East Rutherford for a 1:00 kickoff, and getting them home without the parking lot crawl.

The Two September Home Games

Jets vs. Packers

  • Date: Sunday, September 20, 2026
  • Kickoff: 1:00 PM ET, on Fox
  • The draw: A home opener is its own event, and Green Bay travels better than almost any team in the league. Expect a full building with a loud visiting contingent.

Giants vs. Titans

Two straight football Sundays at MetLife, both 1:00 kickoffs, both with the same logistics problem from our side of the city.

Why the 1:00 PM Kickoff Is Sneaky Hard from Long Island

A night game gives you the whole day to stage the trip. A 1:00 kickoff does not.

To tailgate properly, you are leaving central Long Island by roughly 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning. To just make kickoff with a margin, you are still leaving before 10:30. Sunday morning sounds like easy driving, and sometimes it is, but the Cross Bronx does not take Sundays off, the GWB upper level meters everyone through the same toll plaza, and on game day the last three miles of Route 3 move at parking lot speed no matter what time you left.

Then there is the return. A 1:00 game ends a little after 4:00. You exit with 80,000 people into late-Sunday-afternoon traffic, hit the GWB with everyone coming back from everywhere, and land on the LIE with the tail end of weekend return traffic from the East End. Door to door, plenty of Long Island fans spend more time in the car than the game itself lasted.

NFL Sundays Have Their Own Parking Rules

MetLife handles NFL game days differently than concerts: parking around the stadium on Jets and Giants Sundays is permit-based, and the general lots are a long walk from the gates even when you have one. If you do not hold a season parking permit, you are buying a single-game permit in advance or parking in an outer lot and hiking in with your cooler.

The drop-off answer is cleaner. The designated taxi and limousine zone between Lots D and E puts you a short walk from the gates, with no permit, no cooler hike, and no post-game lot exit. Your chauffeur stages there before the fourth quarter ends. You walk out, get in, and you are on Route 3 while the lots are still gridlocked.

Tailgating Without the Designated Driver Problem

Here is the honest version of an NFL Sunday: it starts with beers in a parking lot at 10:00 AM and ends with everyone tired at 5:00 PM. Somebody in your crew is supposed to stay sharp enough to drive two states home through Sunday traffic. Every group handles this the same way, which is to say badly, and it quietly caps the day for whoever drew the short straw.

A Sprinter van for eight to fourteen people fixes the whole structure of the day. Everyone rides together, everyone tailgates, nobody counts drinks, and the vehicle that brought you is the vehicle waiting at the D/E zone when it ends. Split across a full van, the per-person cost against three cars' worth of gas, tolls, and single-game parking permits is a much closer race than most people assume, before you even price in the four hours of somebody's Sunday spent driving.

The Corporate Angle: Client Football Season Starts Now

September is when client entertainment picks back up. If your firm holds Jets or Giants tickets, the transportation is part of the impression. Picking a client up at their door in Garden City or Melville, riding out together with the pregame show on, and walking from the drop-off zone straight to the gates is a different experience than telling them where to meet you in Lot G.

We run this constantly during football season for firms across Nassau and Suffolk. One booking covers the round trip, the chauffeur handles the staging, and the host gets to be a host instead of a driver. Our corporate travel service covers how we handle recurring game-day accounts, and our hourly service is the right structure when the plan includes a stop before or after the game.

How We Run a MetLife Game Day

The plan is simple and it does not change: door pickup anywhere on Long Island, timed to whether you are tailgating or just making kickoff. Route decision made the morning of, northern crossing or the Verrazzano-Goethals route, based on live conditions. Drop at the taxi and limo zone between Lots D and E. Chauffeur staged back at the same zone before the game ends. Home on your schedule, not the parking lot's.

We have been running Long Islanders to MetLife for both teams for years. Here is the full picture of our Long Island car service coverage across Nassau and Suffolk.

Football is back. Keep the driving out of your Sunday.
