Kacey Musgraves Closes Out August at MSG: Long Island Car Service Guide

Kacey Musgraves headlines Madison Square Garden on Monday, August 31, and Tuesday, September 1, capping off what's been one of the busiest concert months MSG has seen all year — Mumford & Sons, Olivia Dean, and the Jonas Brothers all played multi-night runs at the Garden earlier in August. Musgraves closes the month out with two nights that bridge the end of summer into September.

A Holiday-Week Wrinkle

August 31 falls on the Monday of Labor Day week, with the show on September 1 landing the day after. That means Long Island traffic patterns are slightly different than a typical late-August weeknight — some of the usual weekday commuter volume is lighter heading into a holiday, but summer travel and Hamptons return traffic can still affect the LIE and connecting parkways depending on when you're leaving.

Getting Into and Out of MSG

As with every MSG show, there's no dedicated arena parking — the Garden sits on top of Penn Station. Garages near Hudson Yards and the Port Authority run $40 to $60 for the night and take real time to clear once the show lets out and everyone tries to retrieve a car at once.

The LIRR from Penn Station is an option, but a show ending around 10:30 or 11pm means catching a specific train, and Labor Day week schedules can run slightly different from a normal week — worth double-checking the timetable before you rely on a specific departure.

What to Plan For

Monday, August 31: Early in the holiday week, likely lighter traffic than a typical Monday since some commuters are already off for the long weekend.

Tuesday, September 1: The day after Labor Day proper for many, meaning a more typical weekday commute pattern returns for at least part of the evening.

Either night: Build in 2 to 2.5 hours from Nassau County for a comfortable arrival before the show, more from central or eastern Suffolk.
