Karol G at MetLife Stadium (Sept 17–18): The Long Island Fan's Guide to Getting There

August 25, 2026Rafi

If you have tickets to Karol G at MetLife Stadium, the show is settled and the commute is not. A Long Island car service to MetLife Stadium is the piece of this night you can lock in now and stop thinking about. The Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour plays East Rutherford on Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18, 2026, both nights at 7:00 PM. Getting from Nassau or Suffolk to a New Jersey stadium for a 7:00 PM curtain on a weeknight is a specific problem, and it has a specific answer.

The Two Nights

Karol G — Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour

  • Dates: Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18, 2026
  • Show time: 7:00 PM both nights. Doors at 5:30 PM. Parking lots open at 2:00 PM.
  • Openers: Elena Rose on the 17th, Becky G on the 18th
  • Venue: MetLife Stadium, 1 MetLife Stadium Drive, East Rutherford, NJ
  • Capacity: 82,500

MetLife added the September 18 date because of demand for the first one. That is worth knowing, because it tells you what kind of crowd is coming. This tour expanded from 39 stadium dates to 63 after it went on sale, several cities sold out within hours, and Karol G moved more than two million tickets across four continents in four days. She is the first Latina to headline Coachella, she has a Grammy for Best Música Urbana Album, and she has north of 117 billion career streams. Two nights of that at a full stadium is not two normal concert nights.

Tickets for both MetLife dates are on sale.

Why a Thursday and a Friday Is the Hard Version

A Saturday stadium show is easy to plan around. You leave in the early afternoon, the highways are quiet, and you get there.

These are not Saturday shows. A 7:00 PM start with doors at 5:30 PM means you want to be inside the Sports Complex in the late afternoon. Leaving central Long Island in that window on a Thursday, then again on a Friday, puts you on the Cross Bronx Expressway and the George Washington Bridge during the two worst hours of a weekday. That is the whole problem in one sentence, and it repeats itself two nights running.

The Meadowlands is stacked all month on top of that. Ed Sheeran takes the stadium September 4 and 5, BIGBANG on the 11th, and the Giants host the Cowboys on the 13th. The Route 3 corridor will have been carrying stadium crowds for two straight weeks by the time Karol G arrives.

There is also a lot happening on this side of the bridges those same nights. UBS Arena in Elmont has Soda Stereo on the 17th and aespa on the 18th, so the Cross Island and the Belt are moving crowds in both directions while you are trying to head west.

The Drive to East Rutherford

MetLife is on the far side of the entire metro area from Long Island. You cross the whole city to arrive.

From Nassau and western Suffolk

Long Island Expressway or the Northern State to the Grand Central Parkway, over the Throgs Neck or the Whitestone, across the Cross Bronx, over the GWB, then Route 3 west into the Meadowlands.

The southern alternative

Belt Parkway to the Verrazzano, across Staten Island, over the Goethals, then the New Jersey Turnpike north. Longer on the map, sometimes better in practice, depending on what the Cross Bronx is doing that afternoon.

Either way you end up in the same place. Route 3 and Route 120 converge on a limited number of Sports Complex entrances, so the last stretch backs up no matter which crossing you picked. A chauffeur who has run this route on concert nights makes the call about which approach to take based on what the roads are actually doing that day, not on what the app suggested when you left the driveway.

I am not going to publish a drive time. Anyone who gives you one for a weeknight Cross Bronx crossing is guessing. What I will tell you is that we plan these departures with real margin built in, because the margin is the entire point.

What the Stadium Itself Says About Getting Home

This is the part most people do not think about until the lights come up.

MetLife's own event parking guidance warns that for rideshare, "surge pricing is often in effect after an event" and that "large crowds can result in wait time exceeding 2 hours." That is not my sales pitch. That is the venue telling you, in writing, what happens when a stadium this size empties at once and everyone opens the same app.

There is a second detail on that same page that matters more than it looks. The designated area for all taxi and limousine drop-offs and pickups is between Lots D and E. Rideshare drop-off uses the roadway between D and E, but rideshare pickup is in Lot E. Those are two different experiences. A chauffeur working the D/E zone is staged and waiting for you. A rideshare pickup in Lot E is you standing in a parking lot at 11:00 PM behind a very large number of people with the same idea, watching the price climb.

Parking, and Why Lots Open at 2:00 PM

For most non-NFL events at MetLife, parking is prepaid permits sold through ParkWhiz, or payable on arrival. If you plan to drive yourself, sort the permit out before the day of the show.

The detail I would pay attention to is the 2:00 PM lot opening for a 7:00 PM show. The Sports Complex starts filling five hours before the first note. If you drive in early to beat the traffic, you are spending the back half of your afternoon in a New Jersey parking lot. If you drive in late to avoid that, you are arriving into the worst of the approach congestion. There is no version of driving yourself where that math works out cleanly.

The Transit Answer Is Not an Answer

There is no one-seat ride from Long Island to MetLife.

NJ Transit runs Meadowlands rail service out of Secaucus Junction only for events where anticipated attendance clears 50,000, and schedules for a given date are posted closer to it. Even if it runs, from Long Island that is the LIRR into Penn, NJ Transit out to Secaucus, then the shuttle to the Sports Complex. Three transfers each way, and the return leg stops running shortly after the show ends. Coach USA's 351 Meadowlands Express goes from Port Authority and drops in Lot K, and it also winds down about an hour after the event. You still have to get to Manhattan first, and then get home from Manhattan after.

For a family coming from Massapequa or a group of eight from Huntington, that is not a plan. It is a series of things that could go wrong.

Groups Change the Math

This show travels in groups. Cousins, friends, three generations in the same row.

Six to fourteen people in one Sprinter is one pickup, one drop at the D/E zone, one driver waiting, one ride home. The alternative is three cars, three parking permits, three separate hunts for each other in a dark lot, and three surge fares at the end of the night. Our Sprinter van service exists for exactly this trip.

If you want the full picture of what we cover across Nassau and Suffolk, here is our Long Island car service rundown. I run this out of Dix Hills, I manage the logistics personally, and we have done hundreds of MetLife runs.

Two nights, one stadium, and one of the harder commutes of the year from where we sit. Take the drive off your list and keep the night.
