New York Knicks Playoffs at MSG: Why Long Island Fans Should Leave the Driving to Someone Else

April 21, 2026Rafi

You've got tickets to a Knicks playoff game at Madison Square Garden. The hard part — getting the tickets — is done. Now comes the other part: figuring out how to get there from Long Island without turning a great night into a logistical headache.

Car service to MSG from Long Island isn't the first thing people think about when they buy playoff tickets. It usually becomes the first thing they think about when they're circling Penn Station at 11:30 PM, watching a rideshare price climb on their phone while 20,000 people try to leave the same building at the same time.

This is the guide for avoiding that.

What Game Nights at MSG Actually Cost

Let's start with the numbers, because they add up faster than most people expect.

Parking near Madison Square Garden on a playoff night runs $50–100 at the surrounding garages. The spots closest to the arena fill up first and charge the most. If you're arriving after 7 PM on a game night, you may be circling blocks in midtown looking for a space while your tipoff time passes.

Driving yourself also means sitting in traffic on the way out. Post-game, Seventh and Eighth Avenues around Penn Station become a wall of cars. From the parking structure to the LIE entrance on a playoff night, add 30–45 minutes to what should be a 10-minute drive across midtown. Then you still have the full ride home on the LIE ahead of you.

On the ride home, rideshare surge pricing after an MSG playoff game routinely hits $80–150 from midtown to Nassau County. The math of 20,000 people requesting rides from a single block in Manhattan at the same moment doesn't work in your favor. The wait times compound the price — you're standing on 33rd Street for 20–30 minutes while the price climbs.

The LIRR runs from Penn Station and the connection to MSG is as convenient as it gets by transit. The 11 PM ride home is a different story — standing room, long waits between trains, and packed platforms. For a playoff game where the tickets cost what they cost, the midnight LIRR is usually not the ending people planned on.

The Corporate Client Angle

Playoff tickets at MSG are one of the most common forms of client entertainment in the New York metro area, and for good reason. A Knicks playoff game is a genuine experience — energy in the building is unlike anything else in the city during a run like this.

The transportation is part of what you're providing. Nobody wants to spend the ride in discussing where to park. Nobody wants to have the post-game experience be about standing on the corner waiting for a surge-priced car while your client checks their phone.

A private car service from Long Island — door to door, both ways — handles all of it. Your client gets picked up, the driver knows the route, the drop-off at 33rd and 8th is clean, and after the game the car is already staged nearby. The conversation in the car stays on business or the game, not on logistics.

We coordinate corporate rides to MSG regularly. Multiple pickups across Nassau or Suffolk, coordinated timing around pre-game dinners, post-game drop-offs wherever your client needs. One confirmation before the game. Everything else is handled.

What We Do for Playoff Game Nights

When you book car service to MSG from Long Island through Infinite Car Service, here's what actually happens.

Your driver knows midtown. We've been to MSG for Knicks games, boxing nights, and concerts for years — we know where to drop, where to stage for pickup without getting ticketed, and how to move when 20,000 people are trying to leave the arena at once.

On the way in, you're in a clean vehicle on a fixed schedule. No parking decisions, no navigating midtown in game traffic. Your driver drops you at the arena entrance and you're done thinking about transportation until the game ends.

Post-game pickup is coordinated. You text when you're heading out, your driver is already nearby, and you're in the car in minutes. From MSG to the LIE entrance is a short run once you're in a vehicle and moving. The drive back to Nassau or Suffolk on the LIE at 11 PM is easy — once you're out of the midtown block, the highway opens up. Most of our Long Island clients are home within an hour of leaving the building.

Timing From Different Points on Long Island

From Nassau County — Mineola, Huntington, Dix Hills, Melville — you're looking at 45 minutes to an hour in normal traffic. Game nights add time depending on when you leave.

From Suffolk County — Commack, Hauppauge, Smithtown, Brentwood — figure an hour to an hour and fifteen in reasonable conditions.

For a 7:30 PM tip-off, leaving Nassau by 5:30 PM gives you buffer. From Suffolk, 5:00–5:15 PM is the right window. These are not hard deadlines, but they account for the fact that the LIE on a weeknight going into the city is never a sure thing once rush hour sets in.

Pre-arranged pickup means your driver accounts for that, not you.

The Playoff Run Is Happening Now

The Knicks won Game 1 on April 18 and the series is active. Potential home games at MSG remain in this round and, if the Knicks advance, in the next. The schedule is determined as the series goes — but playoff home games at MSG during a live run are not an event that gives you weeks of advance notice.

If you're planning to go to any remaining home game this playoff run — first round or beyond — the time to sort out transportation is before the game week, not the morning of.

Playoff nights at MSG are one of the most difficult logistics situations in the metro area. The combination of parking limits, post-game rideshare surge, and the post-midnight LIRR situation makes it worth solving in advance.
