Best Things To Do on Long Island This Weekend — August 1–2, 2026

August 1, 2026Rafi

If you are looking for things to do on Long Island this weekend, August 1–2 is a rare one where you do not have to leave the island to have a full Saturday and Sunday. Jones Beach has a show both nights, the Peconic Riverfront in Riverhead has a boat race that people build boats for all summer, the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill hosts a two-day vintage show, the Ducks are home in Central Islip, and Glen Cove is closing out its biggest week of the year. From Wantagh out to the North Fork, here is what is worth your weekend, plus the honest parking and traffic picture for each one.

The Beach Boys at Jones Beach Theater — Wantagh

Sunday, August 2, 7 PM | Northwell at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh

The Beach Boys play the amphitheater on the water Sunday night, which is about as fitting a booking as Jones Beach gets. Sixty-plus years of catalog, an ocean behind the stage, and a crowd that spans three generations of the same Long Island families. If you are bringing parents or grandparents, this is the easiest yes on the list.

Jones Beach has one problem and it never changes: one causeway in, one causeway out. The Wantagh State Parkway stacks up for a couple of hours ahead of the show, and when the last song ends, everybody tries to leave the barrier island through that same gap at the same moment. A 7 PM Sunday start means you are getting off the island close to 10:30, and the walk back to a far lot in the dark is the part older guests feel. Getting dropped at the plaza and picked up at a spot you agreed on beforehand takes the worst 45 minutes out of the night.

KIDZ BOP LIVE Birthday Concert at Jones Beach — Wantagh

Saturday, August 1, 6 PM | Northwell at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh

Jones Beach flips the demographic entirely on Saturday. The KIDZ BOP LIVE Birthday Concert starts at 6 PM, which is an early enough curtain that kids are home at a reasonable hour, and it fills the amphitheater with families from all over Nassau and Suffolk.

Here is what nobody tells you about a family show at Jones Beach: the arrival window is compressed. Everybody shows up inside the same 40 minutes because nobody wants to sit in a lot with restless kids, so the causeway backs up hard right before doors. Then you are walking a stroller and a booster-seat-aged kid across a parking field. A drop at the plaza means the walk is 200 feet instead of a half mile, and you are not doing the reverse in the dark with a kid who is done. If Saturday is the kids' night and Sunday is the Beach Boys, we run both.

Manhattan Vintage: Hamptons Edition at the Parrish Art Museum — Water Mill

Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2 | Parrish Art Museum, 279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill

Manhattan Vintage brings its Hamptons edition to the Parrish Art Museum both days, with dealers set up on the museum grounds on Montauk Highway. Curated vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories, plus the Parrish galleries themselves if you want to make an afternoon of it. It draws the East End summer crowd and the day-trippers from the city in equal measure.

This is the clearest car service case on the list. It is the first weekend of August on the East End, which means Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway are moving in fits and starts from Westhampton on out, and the Parrish sits directly on 27 in Water Mill. Lot capacity at the museum is not built for a two-day show on a peak August weekend, and the roadside overflow situation on Montauk Highway is exactly as unpleasant as it sounds. We work the Hamptons all summer and we know which approach to Water Mill is actually moving at 2 PM on a Saturday. Get dropped at the door, shop without watching a clock on a meter, and let somebody else sit in the westbound crawl.

Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race — Peconic Riverfront

Saturday, August 1, 9 AM–1 PM, races start at 11 AM | Peconic Riverfront, downtown Riverhead

People build these boats for weeks. The Riverhead Chamber's cardboard boat race takes over the Peconic Riverfront Saturday morning, with check-in at 9 and racing from 11, across a Youth Regatta, a Grand National Regatta, a Yacht Club Regatta and an Outlaw Race. This year adds a Family Fun Zone and a vendor marketplace next to the boat launch, plus music, face painting and trophies. If you are racing, pre-registration through the chamber is required and closes before the day. If you are just watching, show up.

Downtown Riverhead on a Saturday morning in August is already busy before an event lands on the waterfront, and the riverfront parking area is partly given over to the Family Fun Zone this year. Between the race, the Peconic Riverfront traffic and everyone else heading east on Route 58, the parking math does not work in your favor. A drop on East Main puts you at the water in a minute. It also pairs cleanly with the rest of a North Fork day, which is the other thing worth saying about Riverhead in August.

Long Island Ducks vs. Staten Island FerryHawks — Central Islip

Saturday, August 1, 6:35 PM | Fairfield Properties Ballpark, 3 Court House Dr, Central Islip

The Ducks host the Staten Island FerryHawks Saturday evening in Central Islip. Atlantic League baseball at a ballpark where the seats are close, the tickets are reasonable and a family of four can actually eat without a second mortgage. A 6:35 first pitch on a summer Saturday is one of the better values on Long Island, and it is a genuinely local crowd.

The ballpark sits right off the Southern State and Wicks Road, and the lot itself is fine most nights. What is not fine is the exit after the last out, when the whole place empties onto Court House Drive at once. If you are coming from the North Shore or Nassau on a Saturday evening in August with the beach traffic still unwinding, the ride out is the part worth handing off. We cover all of Suffolk County, and Central Islip is a short run from Dix Hills, Commack or Hauppauge.

Feast of St. Rocco — Glen Cove

Through Sunday, August 2 | Church of St. Rocco, 18 Third Street, Glen Cove

The Feast of St. Rocco wraps its 2026 run this weekend in Glen Cove. Rides, games, live music, and the homemade Italian food that is the actual reason people drive in from three towns over. Admission is free. It has been running for generations and it is one of the few Nassau events where the crowd genuinely comes from across the county.

Third Street and the blocks around the church are residential and narrow, and by early evening on a Saturday the street parking around Glen Cove Avenue is gone. People end up parking a long walk out and hiking back with kids and food. A drop-off two blocks from the church solves the entire problem, and if the night involves a few hours at the feast, nobody has to think about the drive home.

Also on this weekend

The Wonderland Midway carnival at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead runs Saturday and Sunday from 3 PM, free admission, and closes out its run August 2, which makes it an easy add-on if you are already out east for the boat race. The North Fork tasting rooms are also at peak season this weekend, and Route 25 and Sound Avenue after an afternoon on the wine trail is not the place to test anybody's judgment. Booking the day is the most common summer call we get, and for good reason.

One Call Covers the Whole Weekend

The Beach Boys or KIDZ BOP at Jones Beach, a vintage show on Montauk Highway, a boat race on the Peconic, Ducks baseball in Central Islip, or a feast in Glen Cove. Different corners of the island, same underlying problem. The event is never the hard part. The Jones Beach causeway, the Water Mill lot on an August Saturday, and the crawl back west on 27 are where a good Long Island weekend turns into a long one.

We have been running these roads for 20 years, from the Wantagh Parkway to the East End, and we plan the drop and the pickup around how each place actually fills and empties. We cover all of Nassau and Suffolk, the Hamptons and the North Fork, and if the weekend also involves a flight we handle the JFK and LGA runs too. See our Long Island car service details, or request a quote and we will take it from there. The car will be there.
