Best Things To Do on Long Island This Weekend — July 4–5, 2026
This is the biggest weekend of the Long Island summer, and 2026 makes it bigger. It is Independence Day on a Saturday, it is the country's 250th birthday, and the Blue Angels are back over Jones Beach. Fireworks Saturday night, the FourLeaf Air Show Sunday, Ducks baseball in Central Islip both days, a parade through Port Jefferson, and the North Fork tasting rooms in full July swing. Everything below is happening right here on the island. Here is what to plan around, with the parking and traffic reality for each.
Jones Beach July 4th Fireworks Spectacular — Wantagh
Saturday, July 4, fireworks at 9:30 PM | Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh
The Jones Beach fireworks over the Atlantic are the anchor of the whole weekend. The show starts at 9:30 PM and runs about half an hour, but the real move is getting there early, spreading out on the sand while the sun goes down over the ocean, and letting the beach do the rest. It is the classic Long Island Fourth, and thousands of people have the same idea.
That last part is the catch. There is one causeway in and out of Jones Beach State Park, and on the Fourth of July it backs up hard in both directions. The lots fill by late afternoon, and when the last shell fades everyone leaves at once onto the Meadowbrook and Wantagh Parkways. A drop at the field and a set pickup after the finale means you walk straight to the beach, skip the search for a spot, and are not sitting in the parkway crush at 10:15 with tired kids in the back seat. For a night this crowded, that is the whole difference.
FourLeaf Air Show — Blue Angels at Jones Beach
Sunday, July 5, 10:00 AM–3:00 PM | Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh
The FourLeaf Air Show returns to Jones Beach Sunday and Monday, 10 AM to 3 PM, and this year it is tied to America's 250th birthday. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headline for their eleventh time here, with the Army Golden Knights parachute team, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, and the New York Air National Guard filling out the day. The jets come in low right over the water, and the whole beach becomes the grandstand.
An air show at Jones Beach is the causeway problem doubled. You have the normal summer beach crowd plus a hundred thousand people coming specifically for the show, all funneling through the same single road, and the lots open at sunrise and fill early. If you drive yourself, you are either arriving at dawn or parking somewhere you will regret when you leave. A drop near the field lets you show up on show time and get picked up after the last pass, without giving up half your Sunday to the parking lot. For a family with kids and beach chairs, one car beats circling the lot in July heat.
Long Island Ducks vs. Hagerstown — Central Islip
Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5 | Fairfield Properties Ballpark, Central Islip
The Ducks are home all weekend against Hagerstown, and Saturday is the big one: a postgame Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular after the game. Sunday brings a giveaway for the first fans through the gate. Affordable minor-league baseball, a summer night at the ballpark, and fireworks without the Jones Beach crowd makes this the easy family pick if you want the holiday without the two-hour causeway sit.
Fairfield Properties Ballpark sits right off the Southern State and Sunrise Highway in Central Islip, and the on-site lot handles most nights fine. A July 4 fireworks night is one of the busiest dates of the season, and the lot empties slowly once the last shell goes off. For a multi-generation group, one car dropped at the gate beats coordinating two or three vehicles, and nobody has to be the one waiting in the exit line while everyone else is already home.
Port Jefferson Fourth of July Parade — Port Jefferson Village
Saturday, July 4, parade through the village | Port Jefferson
Port Jefferson does the Fourth the old-fashioned way, with a parade winding through the village on Saturday after fireworks the night before. It is the small-town holiday done right, the harbor as the backdrop, shops and restaurants open, and a walkable downtown that turns into one big block party for the day. If you want the Norman Rockwell version of the Fourth on Long Island, this is it.
The trouble with a village parade is exactly what makes it good: the streets close and the whole town shows up. Parking near the harbor in Port Jeff is hard on an ordinary summer Saturday, and on parade day the closest lots are gone by mid-morning. A drop right at the edge of the village puts you in the middle of it without the half-mile walk from wherever you finally found a spot, and a pickup at the end skips the slow crawl out of a packed downtown.
North Fork Wine Country — Cutchogue, Southold & Beyond
Sunday, July 5 | North Fork wine trail
If you would rather trade the crowds for a slow afternoon, the North Fork is in full summer rhythm this weekend. Bedell Cellars in Cutchogue has live music with Haig Mathosian from 1 to 5 PM on Sunday, Sannino Vineyard is running its After Dark series, and the tasting rooms up and down Route 25 are pouring the 2026 summer whites. A relaxed day moving between a couple of vineyards is one of the best ways to spend a July Sunday on the island, and it is a world away from the Jones Beach causeway.
The wine trail has one problem built into it, and it is the obvious one. The whole point is to taste at more than one stop, which means somebody has to drive between them and stay dry, and Route 25 and the back roads out east are not where you want to be guessing on that. A car service for a North Fork day means everyone in the group actually gets to enjoy the wineries, the driving is handled, and the ride home after a full afternoon in the sun is somebody else's job. It is the single best use case we run all summer.
One Call Handles the Whole Weekend
Whether it is the Jones Beach fireworks, the Blue Angels over the water on Sunday, a Ducks game and fireworks in Central Islip, the parade in Port Jefferson, or a slow day on the North Fork wine trail, the common thread is the same: the event is the easy part, and getting there and back is where a holiday weekend goes sideways. We have run these roads for 20 years, from the Jones Beach causeway on the Fourth to the harbor streets of Port Jeff, and we plan the pickup and drop around the way each spot actually fills and empties.
We cover all of Nassau and Suffolk, the Hamptons, and the North Fork, and if your holiday weekend also includes a flight we handle the JFK and LGA runs too. See our Long Island car service details, or request a quote and we will take care of the rest. The car will be there.
