Best Things To Do on Long Island This Weekend — September 5–6, 2026
If you are looking for things to do on Long Island this weekend, September 5–6 is Labor Day weekend, and out here that means two different things happening at once. There is a full calendar of events from Wantagh to Greenport. And there is the westbound exodus, the last big one of the season, building all weekend and breaking loose on Sunday and Monday.
Both of those are worth planning around. Here is what is on, and the honest transportation picture for each.
Breaking Benjamin at Jones Beach — Wantagh
Saturday, September 5, 6 PM | Northwell at Jones Beach Theater, 895 Bay Pkwy, Wantagh
Breaking Benjamin headlines Saturday with Chevelle, STARSET, and Kami Kehoe. Six o'clock doors on a four-band bill means you are on that beach for five hours with the Atlantic behind the stage, which is the entire reason people put up with this venue.
And they do put up with it. Jones Beach is a barrier island. The Wantagh Parkway and Ocean Parkway are the only ways off, there is no alternate route, and roughly 15,000 people decide to leave inside the same twenty minutes. That is true in June and it is true in September, except this Saturday you are also folding into the last real beach day of the summer, so the causeway has been working since noon.
Drop at the gate, agree on a pickup spot before the show, and skip the part where you sit in a parking field watching taillights. We run this venue all season and cover all of Nassau County. It is the same call every time here, and it is the right one.
Korea Festa and The Paramount — Downtown Huntington
Korea Festa: Saturday–Monday, September 5–7, 12:30 to 7 PM daily, Huntington The Fixx with Colin Blunstone and Peter Asher: Saturday, September 5, doors 6:30 PM | The Paramount, 370 New York Ave
Two things are happening in the same handful of blocks Saturday. Korea Festa runs all three days in Huntington with food, music, and cultural programming from 12:30 to 7. Then at 6:30 the Paramount opens doors for The Fixx, with Colin Blunstone of the Zombies and Peter Asher on the same bill. That is a genuinely good night of music for anyone who owned a radio between 1965 and 1985.
Here is the local part. New York Avenue and Wall Street on a normal Saturday night is already a parking problem. The municipal lots behind Main fill by seven, and people end up on the residential side streets north of Gerard walking ten minutes back in. Put a three-day festival and a sold-leaning Paramount show on the same afternoon and that walk gets longer.
A door drop on New York Avenue takes thirty seconds. We are based fifteen minutes away and cover Huntington constantly. If you are doing the festival in the afternoon and the show at night, one car handles both ends and you never move the vehicle in between.
Honeycrisp Apple Festival at Harbes — Jamesport
Saturday and Sunday, September 5–6 | Harbes Family Farm, 715 Sound Ave, Jamesport
Honeycrisp season opens this weekend at Harbes in Jamesport, with the trellis rows set up so kids and grandparents can pick without a ladder. There are hayrides, the barnyard, and the corn maze going. It is the unofficial start of fall on the North Fork even though it is still 80 degrees.
Sound Avenue on Labor Day Saturday is the thing to understand. It is a two-lane road that carries the entire North Fork, and this weekend it is carrying apple pickers, winery traffic, and everyone who booked a last-weekend rental in Southold and Greenport. The farm lots on Sound Avenue back up onto the road itself by late morning. If you are coming from Nassau or western Suffolk, go early or let somebody else handle the drive.
Greenport Fall Craft Fair — Greenport
Saturday, September 5, rain date Sunday | Greenport Schools grounds, Greenport
The Fall Craft Fair takes over the Greenport Schools grounds Saturday with local makers, food, and the kind of crowd that turns the village into a walking town for the day. Pair it with a stop on Front Street and you have the afternoon covered.
Greenport is the far end of the fork, and on Labor Day weekend that matters. Route 25 through Southold and Peconic is one lane in each direction with left turns into every winery along the way, and the ferry line at the foot of Third Street backs up into the village. Parking in Greenport in September is a scavenger hunt. Getting dropped in the village and picked up later is the version of this day where you actually enjoy it. We cover Suffolk County end to end, including the North Fork wine trail, which is the other reason people call us for this trip.
45th Annual Italian Festival — Port Washington
Labor Day weekend, September 5–7 | Port Washington, Nassau County
The Italian Festival hits its 45th year this weekend in Port Washington. Rides, sausage and peppers, live music, and a street scene that has been running longer than most of the people at it have been alive. It is the North Shore's Labor Day tradition and it draws from well outside Port.
Main Street and the streets around the festival grounds close or choke, and the Port Washington LIRR lot fills with people who are not taking the train. If you are coming from Manhasset, Great Neck, or anywhere along Northern Boulevard, the last mile is the whole problem. A drop at the edge of the festival footprint solves it.
Labor Day Weekend Silent Disco — East Hampton
Sunday, September 6, 8 PM | Guild Hall, 158 Main St, East Hampton
Guild Hall closes out the weekend Sunday night with a silent disco on Main Street in East Hampton. Disco, pop, Latin, and '80s across the headphone channels, with beer, wine, and cocktails until 11.
Two reasons to have a car for this one. The first is obvious. It runs to 11 PM with a full bar and it is on Main Street in East Hampton, where the parking rules are enforced and the walk to anywhere you can legally leave a car is not short.
The second is the bigger one. Sunday night of Labor Day weekend is when the East End starts emptying. Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway westbound are already stacked Sunday afternoon and stay that way into Monday. If you are heading back to Nassau or western Suffolk after this, you want to be in the back seat for it, not the front. We run the Hamptons all season and this weekend is the one we plan hardest around.
Also on this weekend
Old Westbury Gardens has the final weekend of the Nature Connects LEGO exhibit. The Eisenhower Park Craft and Gift Fair runs in East Meadow, and there is polo at Bethpage State Park. Carlita plays The Surf Lodge in Montauk Saturday at 4. The Liverpool Shuffle does Beatles hits with food trucks at Veterans Memorial Park in Mattituck Saturday at 5, and Christiaan Padavan plays Terra Vite Vineyards Sunday at 1:30. White Post Farms in Melville has its fall hayrides going, the Long Beach Farmers Market is on, and the Long Island Ducks are in Central Islip. Off-island, the US Open men's and women's semifinals run at Flushing Meadows this weekend, which is the other reason the Grand Central and the Van Wyck are a mess.
The Monday and Tuesday After
The part of this weekend nobody plans for is the flight out. Labor Day Monday and the Tuesday after it are two of the heaviest outbound days of the year at JFK and LGA, because the summer rentals end and the school year starts in the same 48 hours. The Van Wyck on Tuesday morning is a different road than it was in August.
We have been running these roads for 20 years, from the Jones Beach lots to Sound Avenue to Main Street in East Hampton, and we plan the drop and the pickup around how each of those places actually fills and empties. We cover Nassau and Suffolk, the Hamptons and the North Fork, and if your weekend ends at a terminal we handle the JFK and LGA runs too. If it is a group, a Sprinter van keeps everybody together. See our Long Island car service details, or request a quote and we will take it from there. The car will be there.
