Best Things To Do in NYC This Weekend — April 11–12, 2026
If you're on Long Island weighing whether this weekend is worth the trip into the city, the short answer is yes. Between a major arena concert in Brooklyn, Broadway matinees, a historic hockey game at MSG, and a parade that shuts down Sixth Avenue, Saturday alone is loaded.
Here's what's happening and what you need to know about getting there from Nassau or Suffolk.
LANY: Soft World Tour — Barclays Center (Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 PM)
LANY brings their Soft World Tour to Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn on Saturday night. If your household has fans, this is a non-negotiable weekend.
The venue is right at Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush — convenient on paper, complicated in person. Surface parking around the arena fills up by 6 PM on a concert night. The surrounding blocks between Flatbush, 4th Avenue, and Atlantic get gridlocked around showtime. And if you're making the drive from Nassau or Suffolk, you're looking at the Belt Parkway or the BQE into Brooklyn, neither of which is friendly on a Saturday evening.
The smarter move: get dropped off at the main entrance, go in, enjoy the show, and have your driver waiting when you come out. No parking structure roulette, no 45-minute wait in a rideshare queue at midnight while everyone else from the concert is doing the same thing. If you're planning this out, our Long Island car service handles Barclays pickups and drop-offs regularly — we know where the flow goes after the crowd empties.
Hamilton — Richard Rodgers Theatre, Midtown Manhattan (Saturday & Sunday)
Hamilton is still running at Richard Rodgers Theatre on West 46th Street. There's a 1:00 PM matinee on Saturday and Sunday performances as well. If you haven't been — or if you're taking someone who hasn't — this is a show that warrants planning real transportation for. You don't want to be hunting for a Midtown garage in dress clothes.
One timing note for Saturday: the 1 PM curtain means you're exiting around 4 PM, right when Tartan Day Parade foot traffic is at its heaviest in the 40s and 50s (more on that below). The walk out of the theater puts you into the edge of the affected area. Plan your pickup spot in advance — we typically arrange pulls on the cross streets rather than 46th itself when there's parade activity nearby.
PWHL Hockey: NY Sirens vs. Seattle Torrent — Madison Square Garden (Saturday, April 11)
This one is a first. The Professional Women's Hockey League is playing its inaugural game at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, with the New York Sirens hosting the Seattle Torrent. If you follow women's hockey at all, you know this moment has been building. MSG is expecting a serious crowd, and the energy is going to match it.
The arena sits at 7th Avenue and 33rd Street — directly above Penn Station. Every Long Islander knows what that neighborhood looks like on a weekend. There is no good parking answer near MSG. The whole area is built around rail access. If you're coming from a part of Long Island where the LIRR isn't convenient, or you want a direct door-to-door trip, a hired car that drops you on 7th Avenue and picks you up after the final buzzer is the move. We've done hundreds of MSG runs and we know exactly where to stage.
NYC Tartan Day Parade — Sixth Avenue (Saturday, April 11 at 2:00 PM)
Over 3,000 bagpipers, Highland dancers, and Scottish clan organizations march up Sixth Avenue starting at 2:00 PM on Saturday, from West 45th Street north through Midtown. The parade is free to watch and the route is hard to miss.
What this means practically for anyone driving through Midtown on Saturday afternoon: Sixth Avenue will be closed along the parade route, and the surrounding cross-streets from 42nd to 55th will back up as traffic reroutes. If you have a matinee or any Midtown plans in the early afternoon, build extra time into your departure. If you're being driven, make sure your driver knows the alternate routing — 10th and 11th Avenue tend to be cleaner on parade days when the cross-town streets are clogged.
We keep up with event schedules and street closures. It's part of the job.
Smorgasburg — Williamsburg & Prospect Park (Both Days, 11 AM–6 PM)
Brooklyn's outdoor food market is running full speed this spring. Seventy-four vendors across two locations — East River State Park in Williamsburg and Breeze Hill in Prospect Park — both open 11 AM to 6 PM Saturday and Sunday. Twenty-two new vendors this year, including Korean shaved ice, Fuzhounese dumplings, Mexico City-style tacos, and Colombian grilled meats. If you're making a day of it in Brooklyn around the Barclays concert, this is a natural daytime stop.
Parking in Williamsburg on a Saturday is its own headache — Kent Avenue near the waterfront has limited street parking and it goes fast. A lot of Long Islanders drive into Atlantic Terminal, which puts you a 15-minute walk from Smorgasburg Williamsburg. Or if you're coordinating a Brooklyn day with a group, having a hired car shuttle you between stops — Smorgasburg in the afternoon, dinner, then Barclays — is the kind of day that actually works instead of everyone splitting up and Venmo-ing at the end of the night.
A Note on Getting There from Long Island
The LIRR gets you close. It does not get you door to door. For a Saturday that involves a concert, dinner, and a late return from Brooklyn, you're either driving and dealing with it, or you're coordinating a hired car and actually enjoying the night.
