Best Things To Do in NYC This Weekend — May 2–3, 2026
May is in full swing, and this is a genuinely loaded weekend. Peso Pluma is at Prudential Center Saturday night. The Five Boro Bike Tour closes down NYC streets Sunday morning with 32,000 cyclists. The Metropolitan Museum is buzzing with pre-Gala energy — the Met Gala is Monday night. And the Yankees have the Orioles in the Bronx all weekend.
If you're coming from Nassau or Suffolk, there's plenty worth the trip. Here's what to know before you leave, including the parking and traffic reality at each one.
Peso Pluma — Dinastia Tour at Prudential Center
Saturday, May 2 | 8:00 PM | Prudential Center, 25 Lafayette Street, Newark, NJ
Peso Pluma is one of the biggest Latin artists in the world right now. His Dinastia Tour — a joint production with Tito Double P — has been selling out arenas across the country, and Saturday night's stop at Prudential Center in Newark is no exception. This is a full arena show with serious production value, not a club date.
If you haven't seen a show at Prudential Center before, the venue works well for concerts. Sightlines are good from most sections, and for an act this size the sound production typically translates well there. The crowd for a Peso Pluma show is energetic, which is a feature.
Getting there from Long Island: Newark on a Saturday night is a specific logistical challenge. You're routing through the Holland or Lincoln Tunnel, or across the Goethals or Bayonne Bridge if you're coming from southern Nassau or Suffolk. Prudential Center has parking but it's expensive and you're not getting out quickly after a sold-out show wraps around 11pm. A car service means you don't spend the drive home calculating which lane to get into in the tunnel while tired. Your driver tracks when the show is likely to end, pulls up to the exit, and gets you home. Saturday night concert in Newark — this is exactly the situation where professional transportation earns its keep.
TD Five Boro Bike Tour — Know Before You Drive Sunday
Sunday, May 3 | 7:30 AM–6:00 PM | Start: Lower Manhattan, Finish: Staten Island
The Five Boro Bike Tour is the world's largest recreational cycling event — 32,000 riders covering 40 miles through all five boroughs in a single day. The course starts in Lower Manhattan, cuts through the Bronx, returns through Queens, rolls into Brooklyn, and finishes on Staten Island. The event has run almost every year since 1977, and it draws riders from across the tri-state area and beyond.
It is worth watching even if you're not riding. Tens of thousands of cyclists moving through closed city streets is an unusual and genuinely impressive thing to see in person. The atmosphere along the route, particularly through Brooklyn and the waterfront stretches, is one of those Sunday morning NYC experiences that locals know about and tourists rarely stumble onto.
What this means for driving into the city Sunday: The road closures are substantial and they last most of the day. A large portion of Manhattan streets are shut down from early morning through early afternoon, and the closures ripple outward in ways that GPS doesn't always account for in real time. If you're planning to drive into the city Sunday for any reason — a game, the Met, brunch anywhere below 96th Street — plan around the tour route and build in extra time. An experienced driver who knows the closure pattern and alternate routes is genuinely useful on a day like this.
Metropolitan Museum of Art — Pre-Gala Weekend
Saturday and Sunday | The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue, Upper East Side
The Met Gala is Monday night, May 4. That means this weekend, the Upper East Side is in full pre-Gala mode — celebrities arriving in the city, fittings, charity dinners, and the general buzz that settles over that neighborhood the few days before fashion's biggest annual event. Even if the Gala itself holds no interest for you, the energy around Fifth Avenue and the 80s crosstown blocks this weekend is unlike any other time of year.
The museum is worth the trip regardless. The permanent collection — Egyptian Art, the European Paintings galleries, the American Wing — is one of the great museum experiences in the world and it doesn't require a special occasion to justify the visit. The upcoming Costume Art exhibition, which ties directly to this year's Gala theme, opens to the public May 10. Right now is the window before that brings a new surge of crowds.
Upper East Side parking this weekend: On a normal weekend, Fifth Avenue parking is already tight. With Gala preparation underway and the neighborhood unusually busy with arriving guests and production crews, it's worse than usual. A car service drop-off at the museum's Fifth Avenue entrance puts you exactly where you need to be. The pickup works on your schedule — you leave when you're ready, not when the meter runs out or the garage closes.
New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles — Yankee Stadium
Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 | 1:35 PM | Yankee Stadium, 1 E 161st Street, the Bronx
The Yankees are home all weekend against the Orioles — both games at 1:35pm. Early-May baseball at Yankee Stadium with decent weather is one of the better ways to spend a weekend afternoon in the city. The crowd for a regular-season home series in May is knowledgeable without the intensity of a playoff atmosphere, which makes it a good choice if you're going with kids or bringing someone who doesn't follow the sport closely.
Baltimore is a team worth watching this season. This is not a throwaway matchup.
Getting to Yankee Stadium from Long Island: The stadium is in the South Bronx, accessible from Long Island via the Whitestone or Triborough bridges. Parking on-site runs $40 and up, and the lots back up badly after the final out — plan 30 to 45 minutes of sitting still if you're driving out. A car service directly to the stadium gate and a pickup after the game, when you're ready and not when the train schedule dictates, is the cleaner option. For our Long Island car service clients making the trip to the Bronx, we handle the routing and the wait — you watch the game.
CATS: The Jellicle Ball — Broadway
Saturday and Sunday | Broadway, Midtown Manhattan
CATS: The Jellicle Ball is not the production you remember from the 1980s. This is a complete reimagining — same songs, but staged and designed from the ground up with a radically different approach. Reviews have been strong. The show has built real word-of-mouth since opening in April, and weekend tickets are in demand.
If you've been thinking about going, this is a solid weekend to go. Saturday night Broadway in May is peak season, and the Theater District has the energy to match.
Midtown on a Saturday night: The Theater District is one of the most frustrating parking situations in the city. Garages exist but they're expensive, and the blocks around 42nd through 50th Street don't offer useful street parking on a Saturday evening. If you're making a full night of it — dinner before the show, theater, drinks after — a car service removes the logistics entirely. You're not calculating where you parked and whether the garage closes at midnight. Door-to-door service on a Saturday night in Midtown is worth it in a way that doesn't require much justification.
Getting Into the City From Long Island This Weekend
Sunday's Five Boro Bike Tour changes the calculus for anyone driving in that day. The LIE and Northern State are manageable Saturday morning, and the Belt Parkway for Brooklyn-bound trips is workable before 9am both days. Sunday is a different story — if you're heading anywhere near Lower Manhattan or the tour's route through the boroughs, plan around the closures and add time.
If your weekend involves a late Saturday night in Newark or a Sunday where you want to move between a few spots in the city without worrying about where the car is, it's worth having a driver handle it.
