Getting to FIFA World Cup 2026 at MetLife Stadium from Long Island: A Transportation Guide

May 5, 2026Rafi

FIFA World Cup 2026 is coming to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — and Long Island is one of the closest major fan bases in the country. Eight matches are scheduled at MetLife, running from June 13 through the Final on July 19. If you have tickets, there are some hard logistics realities to know before you go.

This is not a normal stadium event. Eighty thousand fans. Four different transportation options that all have significant problems. And confirmed rideshare surge pricing from the NJ Transit CEO himself.

Here is what Long Island fans are dealing with, and why hourly car service is the only realistic option for this event.

The Parking and Transportation Reality at MetLife

MetLife Stadium does not have a normal parking situation for the World Cup. Here is what each option actually costs and what you are giving up:

NJ Transit Train — $150 per person The train is the most talked-about option, but it has a hard cap: only 40,000 tickets per match. The station moves 15,000 people per hour. With 40,000 people trying to leave at the same time after the final whistle, expect a 3+ hour post-game wait just to board. That is not congestion — that is the math.

Shuttle Bus — $80 per person Limited to 10,000 tickets per match. If you get one, the return trip timing is not guaranteed — if the game goes to extra time or penalties, the shuttle leaves when it leaves.

Mall Parking (American Dream) — $225–$300 flat Only about 5,000 spots. The parking area is 0.89 miles from the stadium via two pedestrian bridges. The Final parking is already sold out. And even if you get a spot, you are still driving yourself through post-game gridlock and then walking nearly a mile each way.

Rideshare (Uber / Lyft) — surge pricing confirmed The NJ Transit CEO publicly confirmed rideshare surge pricing on World Cup match days. On top of that: rideshare drop-off is not at the stadium. Uber and Lyft are directed to the Meadowlands Racetrack, approximately 1 mile from the gates. Walking to the stadium from there is officially prohibited — you need a shuttle from the racetrack to the gates. That is two connections on the way in and two connections on the way out.

The 8 MetLife Matches — Full Schedule

| Date | Day | Match | Note | |---|---|---|---| | June 13 | Saturday | Brazil vs. Morocco | Opening weekend — maximum congestion expected | | June 16 | Tuesday | France vs. Senegal | Penn Station partially closes 4 hrs before kickoff | | June 22 | Monday | Norway vs. Senegal | NJ Transit commuter service impacted | | June 25 | Thursday | Ecuador vs. Germany | Germany fan base draws heavy Long Island turnout | | June 27 | Saturday | Panama vs. England | England fans travel in force — high corporate demand | | June 30 | Tuesday | Round of 32 | Weekday — commuter disruptions confirmed | | July 5 | Sunday | Round of 16 | Mall parking for this match: $300 | | July 19 | Sunday | The Final | Mall parking already sold out |

Four of the eight matches fall on weekdays. On those days, Penn Station partially closes for four hours before kickoff — which means the commuter rail option has an even tighter window than it normally would.

Why We Only Offer Hourly Service for World Cup

We do not offer flat-rate car service to MetLife for World Cup matches. Hourly service only.

The reason is straightforward: World Cup knockout rounds go to extra time and penalty shootouts. Extra time alone adds 30 minutes. Penalties can push a match to 2.5 hours of play. A chauffeur service that books a flat-rate pickup at a fixed time after the game cannot honestly keep that commitment when the match runs long and 80,000 people are trying to leave at once.

Hourly means your chauffeur is on standby. The clock runs from your first pickup to your final drop-off. You leave when you are actually ready. No renegotiating, no surge shock, no scramble.

Getting There from Long Island

MetLife Stadium is in East Rutherford, NJ — roughly 45–75 minutes from most Long Island origins under normal conditions. On World Cup match days, add time.

From Northern Nassau / North Shore: I-495W to I-678N (Whitestone Bridge) to I-95S or Garden State Parkway South. Depart 3 hours before kickoff on match days.

From Southern Nassau / South Shore: Belt Parkway to the Goethals Bridge or Bayonne Bridge to the NJ Turnpike South. Depart 3 hours before kickoff — the Belt slows significantly on match days.

From Western Suffolk (Dix Hills, Melville, Huntington): LIE West to the Midtown Tunnel or Whitestone Bridge depending on traffic. Depart 3.5 hours before kickoff for weekday matches, when Penn Station closures and commuter congestion compound.

Drop-Off and Pickup at MetLife

Your chauffeur drops you at the designated vehicle zone near the stadium entrance — not at the Meadowlands Racetrack a mile away. This is a meaningful difference: rideshare passengers must shuttle from the racetrack to the gates. With an hourly reservation, you are dropped at the stadium.

Post-game pickup: your chauffeur monitors the match and is positioned for pickup when you exit. Not in a queue. Not waiting for a shuttle. The car is there when you walk out.

Corporate Entertainment and Group Bookings

The World Cup draws significant corporate entertainment traffic from Long Island. Law firms, financial companies, and regional businesses are booking client outing packages for matches. We handle multi-vehicle logistics for groups — one call covers the whole party.

The June 27 England match in particular draws heavy corporate demand. If you are planning a client event around that date, book early.

How to Book

All World Cup reservations are hourly. The rate depends on your origin, vehicle type, and the number of hours needed. Most Long Island origins require 6–8 hours for a round trip including the match.

We have limited vehicles per match date. The Final on July 19 and opening weekend (June 13) are the highest-demand dates.
