NYC DOT clocks Midtown under 4 miles per hour during UN week. Motorcades freeze streets without notice. For a day of Manhattan meetings, the answer is not five separate rides. It is one car and one chauffeur who never leaves you.

How We Book UN Week
Manhattan days are hourly. The car does not leave when you get out.
A UN week day is a 9:00 AM in Midtown East, an 11:30 across town, a 3:00 PM at a client’s office, and a dinner at 7:00. Booked point-to-point, that is five pickups inside a grid moving at walking pace, and every one of them is a new chance to be stuck on the wrong side of a security perimeter. Booked hourly, it is one chauffeur who repositions while you are in the room and is at the curb when you stand up.
Airport transfers are the exception: a JFK, LGA or EWR run that week is still point-to-point, quoted as usual, with extra margin built in for VIP terminal holds.
First Avenue closes roughly 42nd to 48th. Cross streets between First and Second in the low-to-mid 40s close or run through checkpoints. Everything east of Lexington from about 39th to 57th operates on its own clock.
More than a hundred delegations move between the UN, their missions and their hotels all day, each with a police escort that freezes whatever corridor it touches. The FDR closes on a rolling basis with no schedule.
The NYPD publishes the official perimeter 48 to 72 hours out. It describes the starting position. Large demonstrations expected this year add closures outside that map, with no notice.
Delegations, press and the corporate circuit that travels with UNGA fly through JFK, LGA and EWR all week. VIP movements hold terminal access without warning. Departure surge peaks Friday the 25th.

Drive Yourself
Congestion toll + $60–90 garage
You are the one sitting in the sub-4 mph grid. Garages inside the East Side perimeter fill or close, and the FDR closes on a rolling basis for motorcades. You cannot leave a car and you cannot move it.
Rideshare (Uber / Lyft)
Surge all week
Demand spikes for five straight days. Drivers who do not know the closures get stuck on the wrong side of a perimeter, your pin becomes a fifteen-minute negotiation, and when the grid freezes, drivers cancel rather than sit in it.
LIRR + Subway
$15–30 + your day on foot
Reasonable for one meeting. Grand Central Madison drops you inside the East Side zone, which is convenient once. For three meetings and a client dinner across Midtown, you spend the day walking between closures in a suit.
Infinite Car Service, Hourly
One hourly reservation
One car, one chauffeur, with you all day. He repositions while you are in the room, watches where the motorcades are actually moving, and is on the right side of the perimeter when you walk out. Nothing is re-hailed. Nothing surges.
Pickup in Dix Hills
The chauffeur has already checked where the perimeters went up overnight and picks the crossing accordingly. You take the call you would have taken from your desk.
Midtown East, inside the zone
Drop as close to the checkpoint as the closure allows. While you are upstairs, the car repositions to the side of the perimeter you will exit from, not the side you entered.
Across town, then lunch
Crosstown traffic during UN week is the worst of it. Your chauffeur has been watching motorcade movement for two hours and routes around what is actually frozen right now.
Client office, then dinner at 7:00
The 3:00 runs to 4:20. Nothing is renegotiated, nothing surges. The car is downstairs. Dinner ends at 9:40 instead of 9:00, and the car is at the curb.
Home
One booking. One bill. Your clients never stood on a corner in Midtown East refreshing an app at a price that kept climbing.
What Is Included
The chauffeur never leaves
Staged nearby between stops. No re-hailing, no pickup pins, no waiting for a driver to find the right side of a barricade.
Rate locked at booking
One hourly rate for the whole day. Rideshare surge runs all five Gridlock Alert Days. Yours does not.
Closure-aware routing, live
The map the NYPD publishes is the starting position. We route on what the motorcades are doing that hour.
The car is your office
WiFi, charging, privacy glass. Between meetings you work, not navigate.
Multi-vehicle for firms
Several people moving separately, one point of contact, one bill.

The day everyone forgets. Heads of state are back at the UN after the weekend, and so are the motorcades. Plan it like an alert day.
UN week hourly cars book first every year. If your Manhattan meetings for the week are already on the calendar, send us the schedule and we will hold the day.
Getting In
The standard plan, LIE to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel to a 9:00 AM in Midtown East, is the exact route UN week punishes hardest. The tunnel drops you into the middle of the frozen zone.
Meetings west of Lexington
Midtown Tunnel, then immediately west before turning north, or the RFK and down the West Side
Avoid First and Second Avenue entirely
Meetings east of Lex in the 40s
Approach from the north or south along Third, stage on the open side of the checkpoint
The last two blocks may be on foot regardless of who is driving
Airport legs the same day
Point-to-point, quoted separately, with margin for VIP terminal holds at JFK, LGA and EWR
Friday Sept 25 afternoon is the departure surge
