Best Things To Do in NYC This Weekend — September 19–20, 2026
The best things to do in NYC this weekend are spread across four boroughs and two states, and the whole thing sits directly in front of the worst traffic week of the year. Harry Styles is at the Garden Saturday night, David Byrne plays Forest Hills, the Mets close out their home schedule at Citi Field with two ceremonies worth showing up early for, and the Jets open at home against Green Bay on Sunday afternoon. Then Monday morning the UN General Assembly turns Midtown into a parking lot. Here's what's worth the trip, and how to get to each one from Long Island without the logistics eating your day.
Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden
Saturday, September 19 at 8 p.m. is another night in the "Together, Together" residency at Madison Square Garden. Styles has been playing Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays since late August, and the run goes through the end of October. Saturday nights are the ones that sell first and the ones with the biggest crowd surge at the end.
The Garden sits on top of Penn Station, which sounds like a reason to take the LIRR right up until you're standing on the platform at 11:30 on a Saturday night with twenty thousand people who all had the same idea. Midtown garages between 31st and 34th price up on a residency night and empty out slowly. For four people coming in from Garden City or Syosset, one car that drops on Seventh Avenue and is waiting on 33rd when the house lights come up is usually cheaper than parking plus tolls once you split it, and it is a much better end to the night.
If you're taking teenagers to this one, that's the real argument. You're not sending them out to find a rideshare pin in a Midtown crowd at midnight.
David Byrne at Forest Hills Stadium
Saturday, September 19, 7 p.m., Forest Hills Stadium at the West Side Tennis Club. The "Who Is the Sky?" tour, outdoors, in a 14,000-seat stadium built in 1923. Tickets started around $65, which for a Byrne show is a bargain. This is the best night of music in the city this weekend that isn't in an arena.
Forest Hills is the closest real concert venue to Nassau County, and people from the Island underestimate it every single time. The stadium is tucked inside a residential neighborhood of narrow streets and strict permit parking, and Queens has no interest in hosting your car. The official lots are small and go early. Union Turnpike and Queens Boulevard back up for an hour before showtime, and a 14,000-person letout into streets built for a tennis club in the 1920s is slow in a way the map app never warns you about.
The right play is a drop at Tennis Place or Burns Street and a pickup a few blocks out, past the crowd. It is a 35-minute ride from Melville on a good night. Being dropped at the gate makes it feel like one.
The Mets Close Out Citi Field
The Mets finish their home schedule this weekend against the Phillies, and both days have something on the calendar beyond the game. Saturday, September 19, the club retires Carlos Beltrán's number and puts him in the Mets Hall of Fame. Sunday, September 20 is Howie Rose Day, with a pregame ceremony at 12:15 for the radio voice who's been calling Mets baseball since 1987 and is retiring at the end of the season. First 15,000 fans get a "Put it in the Books!" notebook.
If you grew up on Long Island listening to Howie Rose on the way home from somewhere, Sunday is not really a baseball game. It's a goodbye. Show up for the ceremony, not the first pitch.
Citi Field parking is straightforward compared to some of these venues, but the Sunday overlap is the thing to know about: a 1:10 game letting out around 4 puts you on the Grand Central Parkway at the same time the Whitestone and Throgs Neck are absorbing the Jets game traffic coming back from Jersey. Both flows use the same bridges. Our hourly service covers the whole afternoon so the car is where you left it and nobody is walking the long lots.
Jets vs. Packers at MetLife, Sunday 1 p.m.
The Jets host Green Bay on Sunday, September 20 at 1:00 p.m., their home opener. A Packers visit brings its own traveling crowd, so the lots fill earlier than a normal Week 2 game and the tailgate scene starts around 9 a.m.
MetLife is the hardest venue in the region to leave. The stadium sits in the Meadowlands with a handful of exits feeding Route 3 and the Turnpike, and 80,000 people hit that funnel within twenty minutes of the final whistle. Then you still have the Lincoln Tunnel or the George Washington Bridge between you and Nassau or Suffolk. We know where to stage so you're not sitting in the lot exit line for 45 minutes before the car moves. We wrote the full breakdown of NFL Sundays at MetLife from Long Island in our Jets home opener guide, including timing for the Giants game on the 27th.
The 100th Feast of San Gennaro
Little Italy is in the middle of the feast's hundredth year. It runs through Sunday, September 27 on Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston, 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., open until midnight Friday and Saturday. This year's anniversary edition has more than 300 vendors, and the crowds over eleven days run into the hundreds of thousands. The Grand Procession is the following Saturday at 2 p.m., so this weekend is the eating-and-walking version.
This is the easiest thing on the list to bring a family or a group of friends to, and the hardest place in Manhattan to park. Downtown street parking around Canal on a feast Saturday night does not exist, and the garages know it. Get dropped at Broome and Mulberry, eat too much, have a drink, and let somebody else handle the ride back over the bridge.
Last Weekend of NYC Broadway Week
Broadway Week's fall run ends Sunday, September 20. Two-for-one tickets at 25 shows with code 241BWSHOW, including Wicked, MJ the Musical, Hadestown, Oh Mary!, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Blackout dates vary by show, so check the performance before you buy.
Half-price Broadway is the one time of year a theater night from the Island pencils out without much thought. Dinner before a show in the Theater District and a 10:30 curtain means you're leaving Midtown right when 45th Street is at its worst. A car waiting on a side street off Eighth beats standing on the corner in September rain trying to get a ride.
One More Thing: UNGA Starts Monday
Everything above happens right before the wall. UN General Assembly high-level week begins Monday, September 21, with the general debate running September 22 through 26 and again on the 28th. Climate Week NYC starts Sunday the 20th with more than a thousand events across the city. World leaders from all 193 member states start landing at JFK and Teterboro this weekend, and the motorcades and frozen zones around First Avenue go up before Monday's rush.
If you have flights, meetings, or client dinners next week, this weekend is when you lock the plan in. Our UNGA car service page has the street closures and the East Side zones, and the corporate travel page covers how we hold one chauffeur for a full day of Midtown meetings instead of gambling on finding a ride between them.
Getting Around This Weekend
Look at the geography: Midtown, Forest Hills, Flushing, and the Meadowlands all peak within a few hours of each other on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, and every route between Long Island and all four runs through the same five crossings. The Whitestone, the Throgs Neck, the Midtown Tunnel, the Triborough, and the GW are going to be slow in ways a navigation app figures out about ten minutes too late.
We're a Long Island chauffeur service, not a rideshare. Your driver is assigned ahead of time, knows these venues and the ways out of them, and watches your event's actual finish rather than the scheduled one. No surge pricing when the Garden empties at once. No cancellation four minutes before pickup. No stranger you've never met. One call, one text. Done. Our NYC events transportation page lays out the venue-by-venue detail, and if you're flying out around UNGA week, the JFK car service page has the terminal timing.
